Attorney Fee Cap

The attorney fee cap for representing clients in Social Security matters has been updated as follows:

  • Maximum Fee for Attorneys: Effective November 30, 2022, the maximum fee that attorneys can charge for representing clients in Social Security cases increased from $6,000 to $7,200.
  • Fee Petition Process: The fee petition amount, which an initial authorizer may approve during the fee petition process, has also increased. Attorneys seeking authorization of a fee through this process may now be approved for up to $12,000 for claims adjudicated at the initial, reconsideration, or hearing level.

For more details and access to the electronic SSA-1696 fee agreement, attorneys can visit the Representing Social Security Claimants page on the SSA website.
